Building From Back Technical Passing Session Session – Objective

In our Building From Back Technical Passing Session, we have a quick and sharp passing drill ,added with kinetics thinking. The first part is followed by small sided game in tight spaces to quickly get out of pressure. In this session, we would like to improve our passing, receiving and penetration skills by trying to build up from the back for penetration into midfield.

  • Who – 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 Primarily.
  • Where – Defending half or Flank.
  • When – GK possession, winning ball back defensive half.
  • Why – Penetration midfield, keep possession under pressure.
  • What – Width outside backs, support.
  • How – Passing weight, body shape, combination.

Building From Back Technical Passing Session – Details and Stages

The US SOCCER curriculum its best practices is followed. This methodology consists of 4 stages within our Building From Back Technical Passing Session, focusing on progression throughout.

Every practice session starts with a light jog warm up and stretching. Every time there is a small break, players should look to play a small game of rondo when they are waiting on their team mates.

  • 5 minutes of light jog to activate our body muscles.
  • It is followed by 2 minutes of stretching.
  • Total: 7 minutes.

 

 

Stage I – WARM UP

  • The group will be split into groups of 2 players where we will have 2 big groups, a server and a working player.
  • MAIN Passing and Agility:
    • 1 and 2 touch passing. Server calls “one” or “two” for number of touches for pass back.
    • One touch pass requires a check to the player his left hand side, two touch pass requires a check to the player his right hand side.
  • PROGRESSION:
    • Check back to cone (1 or 2 cone) with the same number of touches.
    • Check forward to cone (1 or 2 cone) with the same number of touches
    • Directional Forward touch and pass (1 or 2 cone)
    • Aerial control from server with checking back to cone called by server (volley, chest, thigh, laces, header, MIX)
    • Header (one or two headers)
  • Total: 30-35 minutes.

Stage II – SMALL SIDED ACTIVITY

  • We implement pressure from the opponent, direction to goal and transition from attack to defense.
  • The game is played with 2 attacking players players and 2 defending players with a goalkeeper. The defenders can finish in the small goals, the attackers can finish in the big goal. The objective is to keep communicating “one” or “two” to make your team mate aware of the pressure on the ball.
  • PROGRESSION:
    • We add an extra player on each team, to make it 3v3.
  • Total: 20-25 minutes.

Stage III – EXPANDED SMALL SIDED

  • We require a slightly bigger field with 3 groups total 5v5 all the way up to 9v9, and we have at least 1 big goal with a goalkeeper.
  • The offside rule applies.
  • Split the number of field players into 3 groups, the winner stays on the field.
  • PROGRESSION: limit touches for defenders and midfielders. Ideally defenders will play two touches, and midfielders will play three touches.
  • Total: 15-25 minutes.

Stage IV – FULL GAME

  • Every player will be included in the full game.
  • All rules apply as during a regular league game.
  • Players try to implement the lessons learned from practice.
  • We play a full game with all players involved.
  • Total: 15-25 minutes.
  • After the game, we need to cool down by a group stretching session.
